Welcome to Local Fennville

Local people preparing for a brighter future.

Imagine our lives with less gas, oil, natural gas and coal. These fossil fuels have provided so much and we have come to take it for granted. Yet they are becoming in short supply and are not renewable. How will we live when they become so expensive they may as well not be available? It's going to take some good old fashioned know-how mixed with new fashioned technology and creativity to fashion a resilient future. We want to be able to weather the coming storms.

This is the time to plan and prepare. We want to live in a community that can provide products and services locally. No one else is going to do this for us. We can do it ourselves. We need to work together as a community to become strong, knowledgeable and self sufficient right here in Fennville.

We are getting together to think and talk about how to move towards a life where we can be living well without depending on oil. We want to take meaningful action to move in that direction. Even little baby steps will help. It is no surprise that many members of our Fennville community are already busy doing a variety of projects, producing food, offering products and services that will carry us into an energy descent plan.

We are thinking about big necessities like water, food, shelter, transportation, communication, health and dental care. Then we look for the small attainable goals to take us there.

A future with less cheap fossil fuels does not have to mean a loss of quality of life. The future can be brighter and better than what we have now. The food will be better, local food tastes so much better and is healthier. The nature of work will change, however gradually. Imagine a "9-5" - long commute, drudge jobs ending in lay off and unemployment, changing into self-directed more meaningful service integral to the local community. The more we can plan and prepare the easier the transition will become.

It is by working together as a community that we can move ahead.

Our regular meeting time is the first Thursday of the month. We gather at 6:30 with the meeting starting at 7:00pm. If you want to be added to the email list, you will get up to date information about the meetings. Send email to contact "at" localfennville.info (replace the "at with @)

Our goal is to position our community for a positive tomorrow by taking appropriate action today. We want to stay informed, protect wealth, build resilience into our lives and community, and connect with other concerned citizens.

We need a believable collective vision for the beautiful, abundant planet where our grandchildren will live.

Beautiful and Abundant
by Brynat Welch

If we can’t imagine a positive future we won’t be able to create it.

It all starts off when a small collection of motivated individuals within a community come together with a shared concern: how can our community respond to the challenges, and opportunities, of Peak Oil, Climate Change, and increasingly, economic stagnation?
